With deep respect, we remember and honor the life of Vernon William Lewis, who passed away on June 24, 2026, in Evans, Georgia. Vernon was born on January 31, 1942 in Augusta, Georgia, and over his eighty-four years, he left an indelible mark on all who were privileged to know him.
Vernon loved his family fiercely. His wife Ponda Lewis was the love of his life. He affectionately referred to her as his Love Boat and he was her Tootie. They’ve spent the last 65 years loving each other. Vernon’s profound commitment to his family was matched only by his remarkable integrity and steadfast presence. His many friends and community members fondly recall his thoughtful demeanor, quiet strength, and readiness to share a kind word or helping hand.
Mr. Lewis was a hardworking man. He served in the US Army and the National Guard. After his time in the military, he mostly worked in the service industry. He worked at Allstate Pest Control where his clients knew him as “Vern the Bug Man.” Recently he’d been employed by O’Reilly Auto Parts as a delivery driver. Mr. Lewis thoroughly enjoyed working with his O’Reilly work family.
Many people knew him for his humor. He always had a joke to tell. He liked golfing and watched it any chance he got. He was also a big Georgia and Clemson football fan.
Vernon was preceded in death by his daughter, Sondra Haag.
He is survived by his wife; Ponda Lewis, His son; Tony Lewis (Megan), His son-in-law; Daniel Haag, His grandchildren: Heather Landrum (Jon), Kevin Haag (Kaley), Mckenzie Lewis, Liam Lewis, and Delaney Lewis,His great grandchildren: Kaleb, Aaron, and Kara Landrum and Charlotte Haag.
As we reflect upon Vernon's lasting legacy, we are reminded of the countless ways he enriched our lives. His character, generosity, and enduring love for those closest to him shine brightly and endure in the memories of all who had the fortune to know him.
