Theresa Darlene Warren Doerr passed peacefully in the arms of her beloved Bob and surrounded by her loving family. Her 10 year struggle with dementia and other health problems is over. Darlene is survived by her devoted husband Bob Doerr of Augusta, GA, daughter Stefanie Clardy, Savannah, GA, son Matt Doerr (Kristen) of Atlanta, GA; granddaughter Laura (Chad) Niedenthal of Savannah, GA; Michael Clardy, Augusta, GA; grandson Mason Doerr, Atlanta, GA and great granddaughter, Madison Niedenthal of Savannah GA and sister Joan Warren Hinson (Marvin) of Candler, NC. Grieving her passing are many beloved nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends.
Darlene was the daughter of W.T. “Bus” Warren and Erie Frady Warren of Asheville, NC who preceded in death. Also preceding her in death were brothers W.T. “Bill” (Ginger) Rogersville, TN; Ron Warren, Asheville,NC, sister Jane Warren Poss (Charles) of Candler, NC.
Darlene grew up in Asheville NC and graduated from Erwin High School in 1967. On a visit to Gainesville, FL in June she met, fell in love and married Robert “Bob” Matthew Doerr in March 1968. Bob graduated from the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL in 1975 As a building construction engineer, his work took them all over the states and Japan. Wherever Bob worked was home for the family. Darlene’s fun and warm personality created friendships wherever they lived. Everyone was always welcome in their home.
As a wife and mother, Darlene’s talent extended beyond homemaking, gardening and baking. She was an avid collector of primitive antiques and costume jewelry. Their home was decorated with many lovely things. When Stefanie and Matt started their careers, she volunteered as a dog rescuer, caring and finding homes for many precious dogs. She was a talented seamstress and created Stefanie’s wedding gown, among her many needle works and other fabric projects. Once the grandchildren, Laura and Michael, came she devoted her time to being the very best Grandmother ever.
While living in Kansas she took art classes and discovered her real talent was in fine art. When they returned to Augusta she earned her degree in Fine Art from Augusta in June 1997. She excelled in sculpture and used her talent to create objects of art for healing for survivors of abuse. Her art was displayed at Clemson University in SC, among other venues. She spoke at women’s conferences using her experiences and art to promote healing and life after trauma. She started Take Back The Night in Augusta GA and was on the board for Rape Crisis Center
Darlene was a warm, funny, talented, creative woman who will be missed by so very very many and especially all her loved ones. A bright light has left us. We take comfort in knowing her health struggles are over and she’s at peace. We ask for prayers as we move forward without her. A private family service will be held later.
