Syun Kong Ching II

SGM Syun Kong "S.K." Ching, II, USA, Ret., age 81, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2024, in Augusta, Georgia.

 He is survived by his wife, Cindy; son Kevin Ching (Jen Huang); sister Patricia Ching; brother Patrick Ching (Wonlyn) and their children Casey Ching and Keila Ching.

 He was preceded in death by his father Syun Kong Ching, mother Betsy Hatsue Ching, and sister Carol A. Ching. 

 S.K., or "Butchie" to family, was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on Christmas Day 1942. He graduated from Saint Louis High School in 1960 and enlisted in the U.S. Army a year later. 

In the Army, S.K. served in the Signal Corps. His overseas assignments included Taiwan (ROC), South Vietnam, Okinawa (Japan), South Korea, and West Germany. S.K.'s last duty station was at Fort Eisenhower, Georgia, where he retired as a Sergeant Major with 26 years of service.

 S.K. settled in Martinez, Georgia, with his family and worked at Savannah River Site. He was a technical writer at the Defense Waste Processing Facility for almost 10 years.

 An avid golfer, S.K. played many rounds at Eisenhower Lakes Golf Course and was a member of the Retired Military Golf Association. He also enjoyed tinkering and customizing his golf clubs to find that perfect swing.

 S.K. became visually impaired at the age of 55, but he regained mobility and independence with the help of the Blind Rehabilitation Center at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. He then volunteered at the center to help serve his fellow Veterans.

 His family is grateful to the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care in Evans, Georgia, whose care gave S.K. additional years with his family.

 A Celebration of Life will be held in September in Augusta. S.K. will return home to Hawaii to be interred in a private service at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe.
