Mrs. Sue Ellis Herries, beloved wife of the late Ralph “Ray” Herries, entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 16, 2024, at her residence.
A private celebration of Sue's life will be held at Brandon Wilde on Tuesday, August 27.
Sue lived in Augusta for most of the past 70 years, having moved from Richmond, Virginia. There were short term moves to Wilmington, Delaware, Baltimore, Maryland, San Francisco and Macon, but she always considered Augusta home.
Sue was educated in Tennessee, with continuing education in Virginia and Georgia. She and her husband, Ray, traveled extensively in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia.
Sue was a member of The Church of the Good Shepherd, and she volunteered with the Sacred Heart Guild, Golden Harvest Food Bank, the Cancer Society and the United Way. She was a West Tech Librarian, a paralegal and spent many years with her husband, managing real estate investments. She retired to Brandon Wilde, where she was involved in many programs and activities. She was an avid reader and enjoyed the symphony.
Sue is survived by her children, Linda Suzanne Chapman (Richard) and William L. Sykes (Sandra); her grandchildren, Jason Chapman (Christina) and Daniel Sykes (Carolyn); and her great grandchildren, Jennings, Whitney, Steven, and Walker; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved sitters, Adelaide and Emma.
In addition to her husband Ray, Sue was preceded in death by her grandson, Michael Chapman, and her siblings, Jean, Kay and Max Jr.
The family of Sue Herries is grateful for your care and support during this time of loss and grief. Sue cared deeply for the residents and employees of Brandon Wilde. If you would like to honor her life with a gift in lieu of flowers, she asked that donations be made to the Brandon Wilde Colonnade and Pavilion Life Care Endowment held at the Community Foundation of the CSRA. Checks can be mailed and made payable to CFCSRA with the memo line: BW Colonnade & Pavilion Lifecare Endowment/Sue Herries at PO Box 31358, Augusta, Ga., 30903.
Please leave condolences in the online guestbook.
