Shelia (Shelah) Yvonne Mitchell, age 78, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 10, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 14, 1947, in Millen, Georgia, Shelia was the beloved daughter of the late George Ellis Sheley and Myrtle Saxon Sheley. Shelia lived her life grounded in faith and guided by Christ’s love. She loved Jesus deeply and never missed an opportunity to share Him with others, always seeking to lead anyone she met to Christ through her words, actions, kindness, and grace.
Shelia was first and foremost a devoted worshipper of God, a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a cherished Nana (YAYA). Her family was her greatest joy, and she poured her heart into caring for and supporting those she loved. Her servant’s heart, unwavering faith, and gentle spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Shelia was a proud graduate of the Class of 1965 where she distinguished herself as a Beta Club member, Co-Captain of the Cheer Squad, and Salutatorian of her graduating class.
She is survived by her loving husband, Collins Mitchell; her children, Scott Mitchell, Shelia Colleen Rejas, and Genevieve Woodhams, and their spouses, Missy, Marc, and Chad; her grandchildren, Kristina Mitchell, Makenna Watkins, Kyhla Rejas, Raven Rejas, Briannah Woodhams, and Dawson Woodhams; her great-grandchildren, Brynleigh Reynolds, Bryson Mitchell, Hudson Mitchell, and Raelynn Watkins; and her brother, David Eskew.
In addition to her parents, Shelia was preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Blake Mitchell.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 PM at Platt’s Funeral Home, Belair Road Chapel. Funeral Services Celebrating Shelia’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 15, 2026, in the chapel of Platt’s Funeral Home, 337 N. Belair Road, Evans, Georgia 30809.
