Sara "Becky" Davenport was born July 7, 1936, in Hickory, North Carolina, to Sara and Harold Davenport. She grew up in Statesville, North Carolina, attending public school and the Lutheran Church. Becky attended Lenior-Rhyne University and North Carolina State University majoring in Medical Records Administration (MRA). She worked in the VA hospital, Chicago, Illinois, and then began teaching in Virginia. In 1981, she was recruited to become Chairman and Professor of the MRA program at the School of Allied Health Sciences, Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, Georgia.
Ms. Davenport served on the National MRA Board of Directors for numerous years in the 1980s and served as a consultant for schools for many years. In retirement, Becky and her friend Ann Anderson purchased a home on Keg Creek in Appling and spent many years sailboat racing out of the Augusta Sailing Club (ASC) on Clarks Hill Lake. She was the ASC first place winner in 1992. In 1993, her team won the Frostbite Series. Becky was devoted to music and for years attended the Brevard Music Festival in Brevard, North Carolina. Family was important to her, and trips were made to various states to visit.
Becky is survived by her wife, Ann S. Anderson, her nieces, Sally Labrinz of NC, Becca Monish of FL, Julia Terrell of AZ, and cousin, Ray Brumley of DE.
A Celebration of Becky’s Life will be held 2 PM December 18, 2025 at Our Savior Episcopal Church, 4227 Columbia Rd, Martinez, GA 30907
