Dr. Sandra May Driscoll, age 88, died peacefully on May 8, 2025, at Stevens Park Health and Rehabilitation Augusta, GA.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 19, 2025 in the Belair Road Chapel of Platts Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.
She was born in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1936. She attended Kean College in New Jersey where she received her undergraduate degree. She went on to earn a master’s degree from West Georgia College, a specialist degree from Jacksonville State in Alabama, and doctorate degree from Nova University, Florida. Having graduated from college Magna Cum Laude, she went on to achieve School Bell Awards and School of Excellence Awards at the elementary level. She was nominated as Outstanding Educator by the National Association of Secondary Principals. She was recognized by the State Department of Education for creating the “middle school” concept and a separate school in a 7-12 school, thus achieving SACS Accreditation and the middle school grant within one school year. She was in Who’s Who of American Educators and has won many local awards including Local Woman of the Year. Dr. Driscoll served for over 36 years as a classroom teacher, media specialist, elementary Principal, middle school Principal, high school Principal, and part-time college instructor.
When Sandy retired to the Villages, FL she enjoyed traveling with her husband Don as well as playing golf and Mahjong with her friends. She always loved being with family and enjoyed the family Trivia reunions.
Survivors include daughters Theresa Coskrey (Gary) of Grovetown, GA, Marianne Crowe (John) of Statesboro, GA, son Kevin Driscoll (Sharon) of Wilmington, NC, 9 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and sisters Connie Mauro and Joan Aselbekian. She is proceeded in death by her parents William and Elsie Hammond, brother Bill Hammond, husband Donald Driscoll, son Michael Driscoll, and grandson Craig Driscoll.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org , Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at www.lls.org , or to Holy Angels in honor of her grandson, Kyle Driscoll at www.laholyangels.org .
