Samuel Mack Ramsey, III died on November 5, 2025. Sam was born on March 30, 1948 in Augusta to the late Samuel Mack Ramsey Jr. and the late Annely Middleton Hayes. He attended William Robinson grammar school and graduated from Richmond Academy. He attended Mercer University and after graduation taught school in Macon for two years. He moved back to Augusta and went into the real estate business. After a few years in sales, he opened Ramsey Appraisal Company which he operated for over 40 years.
Sam had a wonderful group of friends from his grammar school days. He was a member of two exclusive clubs: Swartz-Mortarclumb and the Holy Makerel Fishing Club. He enjoyed many great weekends with his lifelong friends. He was a longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
Sam is survived by his children Samuel Clayton Ramsey (Denise), Albert Sidney Newton, II (Margaret), Amy Newton Harris (Happy), and Sloane Newton Smith (Josh); and his eleven grandchildren Taylor, Beau, Cleve, Catie, Harry, Ginny Lane, Claudia, Parker Ann, Sara Rodgers, Hamp, and Emmie. He is also survived by his siblings Arthur Middleton Ramsey, Annely Ramsey Hill, Hope Hayes Maxwell, Patience Hayes Ducey, Richard Burton Hayes, III, and his aunt Hope Middleton Wood.
Visitation will be at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, November 11th at the Platt’s Funeral Home, 337 N. Belair Rd. Evans, GA 30809. The graveside service will begin at 2:00 PM at the Westover Cemetery on Wheeler Rd. in Augusta. The pallbearers will be Mid Ramsey, Larry Moss, Sid Newton, Cleve Newton, Robert Fortson, and Stewart Flanagin. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Swartz-Mortarclumb. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the American Cancer Society or St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Augusta, Georgia.
