Roger Boutall, age 69, passed away on November 23, 2025, in Augusta, Georgia. Born on August 6, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois, Roger lived a life marked by devotion to family, service to his country, and an endless curiosity about the world around him.
Roger spent his early childhood in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs before moving with his family to Roseville, Minnesota, in 1969. He later attended Mounds View High School, graduating with the class of 1974. Roger went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota, where he double-majored in Geography and Studio Arts. He possessed a remarkable memory and a wide array of interests, and he loved sharing history, geography facts, weather updates, and moon patterns with anyone who would listen.
For nearly three decades, Roger served honorably in the United States Army, dedicating 29 years and 9 months to his military career. Throughout his service, he took on a wide variety of assignments, earned numerous promotions, and ultimately achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CW4) - a mark of his expertise, leadership, and unwavering commitment. The Army was truly where Roger thrived.His military journey brought him across the country and around the world. He served stateside in Alabama, North Carolina, New York, Arizona, Kansas, and Georgia, and held international assignments in Germany and South Korea - where he would meet his future wife. He was also deployed to Kuwait and Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Outside of his professional life, Roger found joy in exploring new places with his beloved wife, Hyesun (Lee) Boutall, with whom he shared 31 years of marriage. He loved spending time outdoors, especially hiking and taking long walks, and he remained a passionate sports fan throughout his life, particularly when it came to football.
Above all, Roger cherished his family. He is survived by his wife, Hyesun; his children, Alex (Hailey) Boutall and Skye Boutall, of whom he was deeply and immensely proud; and his grandchildren, Joel, Emilia, and Lilah. He is also survived by his siblings: Greg (Karen) Zischke, Ronald Boutall, Richard Boutall, Jill (Tom Hill) Ehrman, Rachel (Rick) Thul, Jacquelyn Boutall, and Barbara (John) Moriarty, along with many nieces and nephews.
Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Ann (Pipino) Boutall and John Boutall. His memory will be carried forward by all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
