Roberto Roman

It is with great sadness and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Roberto Roman, who departed this life on August 18, 2026, at the age of 77.

Roberto was a man of strength, courage, wisdom, and compassion. A renowned Grandmaster of Martial Arts, he dedicated his life to teaching, mentoring, and protecting others. Beginning his work with young people through the Police Athletic League during the 1980s, Roberto inspired countless youth through discipline, confidence, and respect. He later fulfilled his dream of opening his own martial arts studio, where he developed and taught his unique philosophy and technique known as TM-WT-Dot "The Many Ways to Do One Thing." His influence reached far beyond the training floor, shaping the lives of generations of students who continue to carry his lessons forward.

A true local hero, Roberto was twice recognized by his community and received two commendations from the Mayor for acts of bravery. Throughout his life, he courageously intervened to save both a woman and a man from violent attacks. Later in life, his instinct to help others remained unchanged when he rescued an elderly woman from a fire. Roberto never sought recognition for his actions; he simply believed in doing what was right.

Away from martial arts, Roberto had a tender heart. He loved animals of every kind, but dogs held a particularly special place in his life. Over the years, he shared his home and heart with many beloved canine companions, each of whom was treated as family.

In his later years, Roberto moved to Georgia to enjoy his golden years near his daughter. There he found peace among the trees, the quiet beauty of the South, and the comfort of being surrounded by family.

Roberto is survived by his former wife, Carmen Rios; his beloved children, Josie, Roberto "Junior," and Roderick; and his cherished grandchildren, Jimmy, Johnny, Roderick, Katherine, Roberto, Naomi, Roderick, Alicia, Tatiana, Emily, Cameron, Carlos, and Civan. He is also survived by his siblings, Maria, Ezequiel, Nilda, Mildred, and Albert, and many extended family members, friends, and students.

Roberto's legacy lives through the countless students he mentored and inspired. His teachings emphasized courage, integrity, perseverance, and service to others.

As his daughter and one of his devoted students shares:

"I would like to bow to Master Roman one last time. As one of his students, and as his daughter, I thank him for not only all the lessons he taught, but the protection he provided. And the last of my butterfly kisses. Love you, Papa Bear."

A private family memorial service will be held to celebrate Roberto's remarkable life and enduring legacy.
