Robert (Bob) Duane Halvorsen, (June 9, 1930 - January 6, 2023), of Augusta, Ga went to be with his Lord and Savior Friday morning January 6, 2023.
Bob Halvorsen was the eldest son of Philip and Ruth Halvorsen. He was joined several year later by his sister, Sharon and his brother, Jim. Philip and Ruth spent most of their adult life in ministry in the Midwest. Growing up, Bob had a love and passion for music and was a decorated member of his High School band and participated regularly in choir and special music opportunities in the churches his father pastored. Bob attended and graduated from Northwestern College (Minn. MN) with a degree in Music and served his Lord at every opportunity in using his musical talents. While in attendance, he met Jewel Lindsley and the two were married in August of 1953. They had 3 children, Kristy, Lindy, & Rick.
They moved south to Augusta, Ga in 1956 and Bob served as Asst. VP at Georgia Railroad Bank while serving as a Minister of Music at Second Baptist Church for 12 years. After this time, he continued to serve as interim minister of music for years several churches in the CSRA.
In 1976, Bob married Billie Ann Brassell, and began 44 years of being happily married until Billie’s passing in April of 2021. Together, they were parents to five children, and 31 grandchildren. Bob is survived by his two daughters, Kristy, Lindy and his three sons, Rick, John and Mark, whom he devoted his life to raising in a Godly and loving home.
Bob was known for how much he loved his family, music, and sports, but most importantly he was known for his love for Jesus Christ, and he demonstrated that love every day. His passion for Jesus and music led to opportunities to serve the Lord leading music worship at different churches, camps, special choirs, and a multitude of other events for over 40 years.
Bob never missed an opportunity to share the love of Christ, and it didn’t matter the age or the person. In his last days, he always took the time to witness to the care staff at the hospital and assisted living facility; because he cared about their eternity until he took his last breath. He dedicated his life to Christian ministry and has left a remarkable footprint and legacy in this community by being selfless and putting Christ first in his life.
