With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Richard Andrew Chaney, who was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 30, 2024. Richard, affectionately known as Ricky, was a cherished husband, father, son, brother, and friend whose presence brought warmth and joy to all who knew him.
Born on April 18, 1980, in Pittsburgh, PA, Ricky was the son of Howard Chaney, Jr. and Ricarda Ethridge Chaney. He found his soulmate in Danielle Louise Shaw, and they were united in marriage on July 28, 2007. Ricky was a devoted husband and a loving father to their three children: Nyaja Talise Shaw Chaney, Tehya Lanae Chaney, and Richard (RJ) Andrew Chaney, Jr.
Ricky's faith was a cornerstone of his life. In 2012, he was baptized at United One Way Missionary Baptist Church in Augusta, GA, by his father, Rev. Howard Chaney, Jr. This sacred moment reflected his deep spiritual commitment and was a highlight of his life.
Ricky was known for his humility, kindness, and genuine nature. He had a passion for cooking and took great pleasure in hosting gatherings where he could share his love through delicious meals and joyful company. His belief in the importance of family, both biological and chosen, was evident in everything he did. He taught his children the values of loyalty, independence, and the significance of a supportive community.
A devoted Pittsburgh sports fan, Ricky's enthusiasm for baseball, hockey, and football was matched only by his love for his family and friends. His spirit and energy will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Ricky was preceded in death by his grandparents Virginia Minney Goodlow, Robbie L. Chaney, Richard Ethridge, Frank B. Goodlow, Jr., and Rev. Howard Chaney, Sr., as well as his great-grandparents Delmar and Almeta Minney and Rev. Andrew and Louvenia Chaney. In addition, his cousins Bruce Harvard Jr., Kurt D. Andrillion Jr., and Andrea Pettus.
He is survived by his beloved wife Danielle and their children Nyaja, Tehya, and RJ. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 17, 2024, at Clarks Hill Lake from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. In honor of Ricky’s passion for nourishing others, the family requests that, in lieu of live plants, donations (time, food, or money) be made to your local food bank to support those in need.
Ricky’s legacy of love, generosity, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
