Mr. Ricardo Fernandez, beloved husband of Melva, entered into rest on Monday, April 20, 2026 at his residence.
The family will hold a celebration of his life at a later date in Spain.
Ricardo was one of four children born to Enrique and Mercedes Fernandez in La Coruna, Spain. He emigrated to Canada in the 1960’s and settled in Montreal then Toronto. It was in Toronto that he entered school to become an electrician. He became a skilled electrician who took great pride in his work, known for his steady hands, sharp mind, and willingness to help others. He finally retired when he was living in Miami but kept active and involved.
He was the kind of man who never met a stranger, only friends he hadn’t yet gotten to know. Whether offering a helping hand, a listening ear, or a warm smile, Richard made people feel seen and valued wherever he went. He gave freely of his time and energy, always ready to step in when someone needed support. His compassion touched countless lives, often in quiet, meaningful ways that will not be forgotten.
Most importantly, he was a family man and his relationship with his wife and his children was his greatest joy and his proudest accomplishment. He cherished every moment spent with them, creating memories filled with laughter, warmth, and steady guidance. His presence was a source of strength and comfort, and his love will continue to live on in the hearts of those closest to him.
He is survived by his wife, Melva Gordon Fernandez, his daughters, Tania Fernandez and Mara Fernandez, his sister, Celia Luna, a sister-in-law, Maria Louisa Fernandez, his nieces and nephews, Sonia, Oscar, Yolanda, Ernest Javier, Nuria and Alex, and his great nephews, Nicholas and Isaac. He was preceded in death by his parents, Enrique and Mercedes, his sister, Marie Carmen Lopez, his brother, Enrique Fernandez and his brother-in-law, Jose Luna.
If so desired, donations in his memory may be made to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America at www.lcfamerica.org.
Arrangements were provided by Platt's Funeral Home 337 North Belair Road, Evans, GA 30809 (706) 860-6166. Please take a moment to share your condolences, memories, and photos at online guestbook at www.plattsfuneralhome.com
