Retired Master Sergeant Roy Thomas Johnsey died peacefully in his home on December 11, 2021.
Born in 1939 in Jackson, Tennessee, Roy is survived by his wife, Glyndia Johnsey; daughter, Pamela Barnett; daughter, Donna Johnsey; grandchildren, Jessica Graziano, Brittany Mercer, Thomas Barnett, and Richard Riffe; great-grandchildren, Brandon Brassell, Matthew Galpin, and Sofia Graziano. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Johnsey; mother, Maibelle Johnsey; and son, Thomas Johnsey.
Roy was an honor graduate from Frederick Community College and Augusta Technical Institute. He continued his education and medical training with the US Army, where he served active duty from 1961 to 1985.
In July of 1971 during the Vietnam War, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for exceptionally meritorious service. He retired from the US Army with the title of Master Sergeant. Roy became a certified cytotechnologist in 1978 and was the co-author of publications in two medical journals: Laboratory Investigations and the Journal of Bacteriology.
Roy worked for the Department of Pathology at Fort Gordon, the Department of Pathology at University Hospital, as well as Westinghouse Savannah River Company.
Throughout his life, Roy enjoyed photography, continuing education, and traveling the world with his family.
