Phillip Stanley Sumpter

Phillip S. Sumpter, 86, beloved husband of Katherine G. Sumpter of 49 years, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

Phillip was born on August 8, 1939, in Bath, South Carolina, to F. S. Sumpter and Margaret Ann Ritch Sumpter. He was one three children.

Phillip dedicated many years to his work as a business consultant, including owning and operating his company, Sumpter Associates.

Phillip and his Katherine were raised in Augusta, GA before primarily living in Virginia and currently resided in Louisville, GA.

Phillip graduated from the Academy of Richmond County and North Georgia College before honing table serving as a first lieutenant in the United States Army.

Phillip was an avid outdoor sportsman. He enjoyed fishing, bird and sporting clay shooting, and golfing throughout his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, F. S. Sumpter and Margaret Ann Ritch Sumpter, son, Benjamin "Ben" S. Sumpter, brother, Stephen Sumpter, and sister Mary Lou Tobin (Frank).

Phillip is survived by his loving wife, Katherine G. Sumpter, son, Brett M. Sumpter (Patricia), niece, Gina D. Carter (John), and grandchildren, Corey Joshua Sumpter and Jeremy Christopher Sumpter.

The family is planning his celebration of life in Virginia at a later date.
