Patsy Curry Chavous

November 15, 1932 — April 22, 2021

Patsy J. Chavous, age 88 entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at her home while she was surrounded by her loving family.

Patsy was born in Sutherland Springs, Texas to the late W.T. Curry and Leona Adcock Curry. After her husband decided to return their family back to his home state of Georgia, they became faithful members of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church where she served as a children’s Sunday school teacher and assisted with Vacation Bible School. She was currently a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and was a former member of Mrs. Sandifer’s Sunday School class. Patsy was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 wife and mother. While she excelled at being a homemaker, it was often said she missed her calling to be a professional cook and baker. Her daddy would proudly tell her, “You sure know how to set a good table.” She enjoyed embroidery, adult coloring books, mystery novels, and find-a-word puzzles, but Patsy could also be found traveling and on antiquing adventures. She was a spirited lady who was willful and lived by her motto, “If I want to, I have to.” She will be remembered for her kind heart, her wit, and her keen sense of humor.

In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John D. Chavous; grandson, Jerry Townson; brother, Billy Curry; and sister, Gladys Poirier.

She is survived by her four children, Cindy Townson (Jimmy) of Appling, Debra Proctor of Grovetown, Dan Chavous (Becky) of Aiken, South Carolina, and Terri Vann (Tommy) of Augusta; eight grandchildren, Melissa Townson, Brian Thigpen, Julie Williams, Rachel Burdette, Daniel Chavous, Karissa Rodriguez, Justin Vann, and Susan McBride; 22 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two sisters, Martha Barth and Laura Timmins, both of Texas; and loving caretakers, Melinda Harris, Shae Dyars, Hillary Sanders.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons; Jacob Poole, Joshua Poole, Jarrett Poole, Trey Powell, Brian Thigpen, Daniel Chavous and Justin Vann.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:30 P.M. Monday at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Road.

A celebration of Patsy’s life will take place at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 27, 2021 in the Chapel of Platt’s Belair Road. Pastoral Ministry Assistant Keith Flanagan will officiate. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The service will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/plattsfuneralhome.
