PATRICIA FAILE WISE

Patricia Faile Wise, 70, of Columbia, SC, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 in Augusta, GA with her immediate family present.

Patricia (Pat) was born Patricia Ann Faile March 13, 1954 in Monroe, NC to the late Manly Boyce Faile and Ruby Twitty Faile.

After graduating from Andrew Jackson High School in Kershaw, SC in 1972, Pat attended Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education.

Pat loved teaching and cherished the friendships with her fellow teachers, school staff, and former students over the years. She taught business classes at the junior high and high school levels over her teaching career. Her first year out college, she filled an interim position for the 1976-77 school year at James F. Burns High School in Duncan, SC. After getting married, she moved to Charlotte, NC where she taught career education and business classes at Northeast Junior High School and Randolph Junior High School over the years 1977-84. In October 1984, she left teaching to stay at home and raise her two children. When the children started school in Greenville, SC, Pat started part-time work in the children’s and youth ministries of Disciples United Methodist Church and St. Matthews United Methodist Church until moving to Columbia, SC in 1995. Pat returned to teaching at Brookland Cayce High School in Cayce, SC in 1998, where she served until her retirement in 2018.

Pat was a loving and devoted wife and mother, and the central figure in the planning of family get-togethers and holidays. She loved her cats, cooking, and visiting historical places, with her favorite being the Biltmore Estate and Gardens in Asheville, NC. She had a strong faith in The Lord and enjoyed reading The Bible daily, which brought her comfort and strength during her valiant 18-month battle with acute myeloid leukemia. Pat can best be described by the following thoughtful comments received from those who knew her: genuine and kind-hearted; a beautiful person with an infectious smile; a dear, loving, caring friend, and teacher; sweet and compassionate; a mentor and guiding-star; always supportive and encouraging; and a lovely person in every way.

Pat is survived, and will be greatly missed, by her adoring husband of 47 years, Bowen Jay Wise of Columbia, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Courtney E. Wise and Matthew R. Blahut of Golden, CO; son, Matthew J. Wise of Columbia, SC; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Susan Faile of Concord, NC; sister-in-law, Kathie Wise of Cullowhee, NC; and nephews, Joel Faile of Mt. Pleasant, NC, Daniel Faile, Concord, NC, and Charles (Chas) Wise, Cullowhee, NC. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Manly Boyce and Ruby Twitty Faile; father-in-law, James Bunyan (JB) Wise, Jr; mother-in-law, Mary Panter Wise; and brother-in-law, James (Jim) Bunyan Wise III.

Pat was cremated at Platt’s Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Augusta, GA, but her memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel in Irmo, SC on July 27, 2024 at 1:30 in the afternoon.
