Patricia was born April 8, 1936, to Romaine D. Dayhart and Edward M. White in Tompkins County Memorial Hospital in Ithaca, New York. She grew up in the surrounding suburbs of Elmira and Horseheads, New York and attended Elmira Free Academy, where she graduated in 1954. Her faith was important to her, and she was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Fletcher, NC.

In1985, she lost her beloved husband, Nelson, after 24 years of marriage. In time, she was fortunate to find love again and, in 2002, married Otto Swierad, beginning a new chapter filled with companionship, happiness, and cherished memories
