Miss Netanya Gwendolyn Carswell, age 22, entered her rest on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at her home surrounded by family who love her deeply and will miss her terribly.
A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 15, 2023, at Platts Funeral Home Belair Road Chapel with Pastor George Swiney officiating. Immediately following the service, the celebration will continue with a reception until 8:00 PM.
Netanya was an Augusta native who graduated from Greenbrier High School in 2019 and continued her education at Augusta Technical College from which she graduated in May of 2021 as a certified welder. Netanya got a job at Trantech Radiator Products Inc., where she worked as a booth welder until her very untimely passing. Having earned poker chip medallions and been recognized for her amazing work ethic on three separate occasions through the RISE peer-to-peer employee recognition program at Trantech, she fell in love with the welding profession, Mr. Rutledge, Raj, Alana, and Mr. Canteen (yes!) amongst others.
Netanya had an infectious smile! That smile radiated while shopping at Costco and Hot Topic, relaxing on a cruise ship, when she ate her grandma Gwen’s collards and mac and cheese, grandma Diane’s mac and cheese, Ms. Perez’s mac and cheese, Melissa’s sweets, Miss Annette’s treats, and hung Omi’s decorations. She had a passionate love for plushies, anime, K-pop, BTS, country music, Crocs (she was the “Queen of Crocs”), poppies, and llamas. Netanya was so unbelievably kind, giving, calm, respectful, and had an old soul beyond her years. Her heart burst with happiness when she simply shopped for others without even a coupon and provided gifts for every occasion or simply just because.
Netanya is survived by her father and mother, Kenneth and Kerstin Carswell (“Yama”), her mother and stepfather, Levara and Greg Bright, her grandparents, Kenneth and Gwendolyn Carswell, Diane Crawford and Maria and Lionel Milton, her brothers, Elijah Levor, Aaron Carswell, and Kenneth Carswell, Jr and her sisters, Adriana Staten and Brionna Staten. The Carswell Family has a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
Netanya is also survived by her second family directly across the street, Melissa MacFarland (“baking buddy bestie”), Scott MacFarland, Lucas MacFarland and Sativa Garrity (amigo), and very special friends and family, Hongyu Guo, De-Huang Guo and Ying Huang.
If so desired, memorials may be made to fund the life of a Llama at Peloquin’s Perch on Hardy McManus Road or flowers (Poppies) can be sent to the funeral home.
