Mary James Godbee

Mrs. Mary James Godbee 83 of Martinez entered into rest with her Lord on May 27, 2025 funeral services will be June 02, 2025.

Reverend Steve Pittman Pastor at New Horizons Church of God will be officiating. Burial will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens in Grovetown, Ga. Mrs. Godbee, a longtime resident of Martinez, was born in Metropolis, Illinois.

Mary served her community in various capacities throughout her life. She worked at Thompson’s Pharmacy for 10 years as a pharmacy assistant.

She served as Sunday school teacher at Crawford Ave., Church of God starting with about 10 members. Her Sunday school class blossomed to well above 90 members. She became a minister and served as pastor in Lincolnton Georgia for seven years. Mary was also an Evangelist, serving numerous churches, locally and internationally.

Mary regularly visited nursing homes and was involved in the community and helped anyone in need .

Mary enjoyed preaching, reading, fishing, gardening, and cross stitching. She valued time with her children and grandchildren. Later in life she enjoyed feeding the deer that would visit her backyard.

Her kind and gentle spirit lead many to the Lord. Anyone who knew Mary knew how much she loved Jesus and her family.

Survivors include two daughters Dianne Cooley (Bob), Tammy Rikard (Robert), one son Frankie Godbee (Sylvia), one brother, Leon James (Lorriane) from Ontario, Oregon.

Mary had 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband Frank and her daughter Gwenie Lopez.

Pall bearers will be grandchildren and great grandchildren. Scott Lambert, Caleb Andrews, Charlie Corley, Matthew Corley, Cail Godbee, and Nick Moore.

Honorary pall bearers will be Jairo Lopez, Elijah Lopez, Aiden Corley, and Isaiah Glisson.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on June 2, 2025 at 11:00 am.

The Funeral service will follow visitation.
