Mary Margaret Dix, 95, of Augusta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2026, at Doctors Hospital. Margaret, as she preferred to be called, was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family and her faith. She was born on September 5, 1930, in Charleston, South Carolina, to Clarence Fordham and Anetta Brunson.
Margaret’s warmth and perseverance shaped her lifelong commitment to family and community. Margaret dedicated her life as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1971 and never looked back. She came to love her God Jehovah and enjoyed sharing in the ministry, teaching others about the Good News of God’s Kingdom and His promises. One of her favorite scriptures was Proverbs 3:5, which says, " Trust in Jehovah with all your heart and do not lean upon your own understanding." She went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina, which laid the foundation for an extensive career as a teacher at Youth Development Center. Her students benefited from her dedication, patience, and passion for learning. Besides her spiritual pursuits, Margaret blessed those around her with a beautiful operatic voice that could fill a room, even performing alongside the world-renowned opera singer Jessye Norman. Margaret was compassionate, generous, and devoted to her faith and her family.
Margaret is survived by her three sons, Garland Dix, Ronald (Connie) Dix, and Douglas (Karen) Grant; Her five grandchildren, Brian (Tia) Dix, Tomica (Mark) Hawkins, Darren Lee, Nivahna McTier, and Javon Ingram; Her six great-grandchildren, McKenzie (Elle) Day, Aubrey (Jacob) Montero, Sydney Barnett, Bryson Dix, Jayvahn Antoine, and Brianna Dix.
Margaret is predeceased in death by her loving husband of more than five decades, Garldon Dix; her father, Clarence Fordham; her mother, Anetta Brunson; her three brothers, Charles Fordham, Claude Fordham, Clarence Fordham II; and her daughter, Susan (Perry) Lee.
