Marie Covington entered eternal rest on Monday, September 8, 2025.
She was born in Irwinton, Georgia on December 7, 1939. Marie was born to Willie O. Montgomery and Mary Wilma Montgomery. Marie was one of five children.
Marie loved to help others by donating her time. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and participated in the shoe box Christmas for kids. Marie was a member of Morningside Baptist Church where she was a part of the funeral committee that helped feed and serve families after a death in their family. She also volunteered her time at the Widows Home on Green Street and the Blue Goose Veterans Home. When Marie was not volunteering, she was working. She started working at Bell South as an operator and later at AT&T as an assignment clerk. She worked for Bell South and AT&T for over 40 years before retiring.
Marie also loved birds and flowers. Her favorite flowers were lilies and hydrangeas. She loved working in her flower garden. When she was not outside in her yard enjoying the birds and flowers, Marie loved to go antiquing. She would go antiquing all the time and loved to collect Hummels. She loved to travel, whether it was across the United States or internationally. Some of her favorite places to visit include Yellowstone, Maine, and Alaska. Marie also traveled to places such as Prague and Australia.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie O. Montgomery and Mary Wilma Montgomery, brothers, Eugene Montgomery and Wayne Montgomery, and her sister, Shirley Thomson, and her grandson, Taylor Montgomery Covington.
Marie is survived by her brother, Kenneth Doyle Montgomery, her two sons, Stephen Blane Covington (Kristen Lynn) and Kenneth Michael Covington (his fiancé, Tabatha Austin), her grandchildren, Stephen Blane Covington II (Alisha), Kenneth Michael Covington II, Stewart James Covington, her great-grandson, Stephen Blane Covington III, her step-grandchildren, Korey Austin (Britton), Chad Austin (Samantha), and William Austin (Grace), and her step-great-grandchildren, Drew Austin, Brooks Ausitn, Reese Austin, and Duke Austin.
A memorial service celebrating Marie's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Platt's Funeral Home on Belair Road. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
