Augusta, GA – Mrs. Marie Bennett Atkinson, 89, beloved wife of the late Archibald Atkinson, entered into rest on Monday, September 5, 2011 at Trinity Hospital.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 12:15 PM on Friday, September 9, 2011 at the Church of the Most Holy Trinity with Rev. Jacek Szuster serving as celebrant. Interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Marie, who lived in Augusta all of her 89 years, dedicated her life to her church, family, friends, and strangers. She understood the true meaning of Stewardship; and therefore gave fully of her time, talent, and treasure.

Mrs. Atkinson is survived by her two daughters, Kathy Gettys Carrison (Robert) and Celeste Bogosian (Paul); her three grandchildren, William R. Gettys, III (Sondra), Paul A. Bogosian (Jamie), and Elizabeth M. Bogosian; by her four great-grandchildren, Jessica, Rees, Makenna, and Emmerson; and also by her many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Atkinson was preceded in death by her parents, John James Bennett and Margaret Mahoney Bennett.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Atkinson, Harry Frings, Joe Landrum, Bob Carrison, Paul Bogosian, and Paul A. Bogosian. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Booker and Ron Caola.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Church of the Most Holy Trinity Building Fund, P.O. Box 2446, Augusta, GA 30903 or to the United Cerebral Palsy, 2968 Glenn Hills Dr., Augusta, GA 30906.

A vigil for the deceased will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday evening, September 8, 2011 at Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel. The family will greet friends following the vigil until 8:00 PM.
