Maria Lagger, 85, wife of Walter Lagger, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at home, surrounded by family in Evans, GA.
Born on July 2, 1940 in Oberschwaben (Majere), Slovakia, she was the daughter of Johann and Margarete (Kohler) Weinbrenner. Maria grew up in Furth im Wald, Germany, coming to the United States in 1957. First arriving in the Poconos, she eventually made her way to Allentown, where she met Walter. They married and moved to East Greenville, PA in August, 1965, later moving to Palm, PA in 1990.
Maria worked part time for Plummer Precision Optics while raising three children. She belonged to the Upper Perk Homemaker’s group, dedicated to preserving the traditions and domestic arts of the role. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and was a crafter and gifted painter. She was a member of New Goshenhoppen UCC in East Greenville. They moved to Evans, GA in 2012 to be closer to their twin daughters.
Along with her husband of over 60 years, Walter, she is survived by three daughters, Heidi Hofke and grandson Nicholas, of Alburtis, PA, Monika Dailey and husband Matthew and grandsons Brandon and Chad, of Seabrook, SC, Viktoria Lagger and grandson Cullen Harlow of Aiken, SC; and sister-in-law Ilona Weinbrenner and nephew Gerhard Jr. of Furth im Wald, Germany. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Peter and Sherry Szekeres and family of MI, Marge and Terry Christman, and Aniko Ritchey and family of PA, and extended family in Germany. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by two brothers, Gerhard and Gottlieb Weinbrenner.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00PM on Monday, July 6, 2026 at Platt’s Funeral Home in Evans, GA, with Rev. Wes Conner officiating. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 2:00 – 3:00 PM at the funeral home, to be followed by a reception.
