Margaret Lorraine Elkins

March 23, 1939 — March 18, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret Lorraine Wingler Elkins, 83, of Augusta, GA, formally of Amherstdale, WV.

Lorraine was born on March 23, 1939, to Rev Everett and Zida Wingler at Amherstdale, WV. On March 18, 2023, God decided that he needed Margaret and her death has left all her family, friends and all that had the blessing of knowing her saddened. She was surrounded by her family as she passed from this life into the arms of Jesus to walk with angels. She was a bright spark in this world and will be deeply missed by many.

Lorraine would like for you to know that her work here is done. She received a call, a sort of offer you can’t refuse, for an appointment from which she will not be returning. This assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends she has not seen in a long time.

She loved to cook and was an amazing baker. She also loved crocheting and made many wonderful things for those she loved. Anyone that truly knew her knew she had a big heart. We take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace surrounded by light.

Lorraine is predeceased by her parents, her son Greg Elkins, three brothers, Ralph, Fred, Billy Wingler, five sisters, Mildred Brown, Madeline McCoy, Fran Duncan and Lou Ann Workman, Ruby Morris, two grand children, Gregory Elkins and Travis Elkins, one great grandchild, Gregory Anthony Meade.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 60 years, Cecil “Red” Otto Elkins of Augusta, GA, formally of Amherstdale, WV, three daughters, Sherry Meade (Tony) of Grovetown, GA, Crystal Stagg (Doug) of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Aleashia Browning of Raleigh, North Carolina, two sons, Richard Elkins of Mansfield, Ohio and Tony Elkins (Rhonda) of Green Valley, WV, thirteen grandchildren, Jason Meade, Joshua Meade, TJ Elkins, Austin Elkins, Joseph Jacobs, Mandy Browning, Emily Browning, Alex Harper, Noah Elkins, Bailey Elkins, Christina Gerber, Kelly Brownell, and Caleb Elkins, ten great grandchildren, along with a host friends.

As per her wishes, she will be cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at a future date. Everyone who knew her is asked to celebrate her life in their own way.

In lieu of flowers, Lorraine would hope that you will do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for some poor unfortunate soul or make a donation to the Alzheimer's Association
