Malinda Drew Nicholson, age 74 entered into rest on Monday, June 14, 2021 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Malinda was born in Shelby, North Carolina to the late James H. Drew, Jr. and Eula Whitworth Drew. She had a great love for animals and people alike- Malinda was a generous and compassionate soul. She owned and managed her own outdoor amusement business, Great Southern Midway in addition to serving as past president of the Miami Showman’s Association, and past president of the country’s oldest benevolent showman’s association, the Ladies Auxiliary Showman’s League of America. She also served on the board of the Georgia Coliseum and the Georgia Women’s Democratic Association. Following her retirement, Malinda owned the Antique Mall on Broad Street.
She is survived by her two sons, George Christopher Nicholson and James Christopher Nicholson; the father of her children, Christopher George Nicholson; brother, James H. Drew III (Evangeline); and husband, Lawrence J. Carr III. She is also survived by her best friend since third grade, Barbara Davis Turner who was involved with Malinda through the years during their time together in student activities and cheerleading at Hepzibah High School and then through the years together in the antique business.
The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Friday, June 18, 2021 at Platt’s Crawford Avenue to include a Trisagion service in the chapel.
Funeral services will take place at 11:30 A.M. Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church with Reverend Vasile Bitere officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
