Ms. Linda Jean Miller Clark, 65, entered into rest on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at her residence.
Ms. Clark was a native of Portland, Maine, a city she loved for a life. She was born on November 5th, 1954 and was adopted by Fred and Patricia Miller. She graduated in 1970 from Portland High School, whereafter she went on to enjoy a career in the medical field as a nurses aid and as a phlebotomist. In 1988, she moved to Florida to raise her newborn twins, and in 1998, she moved to Augusta, Georgia, where she spent the remainder of her days.
She loved genealogy and had a passion for sussing out the mysteries of the past, including an uncanny ability to sense when people were in trouble. She dearly enjoyed befriending strangers and telling stories about her life and the lives of those past, and she loved making children laugh. Among her hobbies, she enjoyed cooking (she made the best fried chicken), crocheting, and traveling with her daughters. She also enjoyed spending time with her dogs, Nova and Marley and her cat Peeka, and had a passion for nurturing animals. In her love for genealogy, she donated many things to the Maine Historical Society and to other societies throughout the United States. She loved traveling to Maine and revisiting the lighthouses, especially Portland Head. But most of all, her greatest joy was being a mom to twin daughters, by whom she was beloved.
She is remembered by how she smelled of ocean salt and cleaning bleach, and how her voice always carried a New England timbre; by how she would never go out without combing her hair, even to the hospital, and how she loved putting on her silk pajamas at the end of the day; by how she cooked fried chicken, chop suey, and biscuits with a northeastern flair, and how she made her favored pumpkin chocolate chip cookie for her family, always with a story of how she came to know the recipe; by how her hazel eyes would spark when she recalled funny stories from her childhood in Maine and how much she adored her grandmother Lucy.
She is survived by her daughters, Christine Clark and Danielle Clark, her brothers, Scott Miller (Diane), John Miller and Daniel Miller as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, James Miller and her adopted Father and Mother, Fred Miller and Patricia Miller.
To honor her memory, contributions may be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate
There will be private services held at a later date for her interment in Portland, Maine.
