Mrs. Linda Harlin Beattie, beloved wife of Larry M. Beattie, entered into rest on Wednesday, December
27, 2023 at her residence.
A celebration of her life will be held on January 15, 2024 at Woodlawn Baptist Church with the Rev. Floyd Harrison officiating. Visitation will be 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm and the service will follow at 1:30 pm.
Linda is the daughter of J. D. and Natalie Harlin, born December 16, 1946. Linda met Larry in church
where they both grew up as fourth and fifth generation members of Woodlawn Baptist Church. Larry
and Linda married in 1966. Linda worked as bookkeeper alongside Larry in the family business, Surrey
Center Texaco (which later became Beattie’s Auto Service) for 44 years. Many employees and customers
of the business became like family over the years.
Linda’s greatest joy in life was her family and she was their all-around “go-to” person; her creative touch
made every occasion a special and memorable time for all. She was especially dedicated to the family
racing which included cars and go-karts traveling as far north as Minnesota and New Hampshire and
south to Daytona; she never missed a race. Linda also enjoyed snow-skiing at Sugar Mountain; spending
summers boating, skiing and grilling hamburgers at Clarks Hill Lake; and traveling to England, Scotland,
Germany, and Hawaii, as well as many other places around the country.
In addition to her husband, Larry, she is survived by her children, Heather Beattie Parnell (Bobby) and
Blake D. Beattie (Meg), her grandchildren, Chase Giles, Lauren Giles, Loch Beattie, Ellie Beattie, Elizabeth
Fawcett, Mary Milner Fawcett, Will Fawcett, Matthew Parnell, and Jacob Parnell. She is also survived by
her sister, Sandi Kirkland, and Sandi’s children Scott Moon (Meredith) and Ginger Moon Davis (Michael)
and four grandchildren Dylan, Brianna, and Dalton Davis and Reed Moon. Linda also left behind
Annabelle, the family dog, a constant companion to her and Larry, and who kept constant watch over
Linda in her final days.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers who lovingly cared for Linda during her illness, but
especially the nurses of Trinity Home Health and Trinity Hospice and Sarah Black, RN who cared for
Linda and offered comfort to the family in the last few hours of her life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Woodlawn Baptist Church at
