Lawson Banks Douglas passed away peacefully on February 4th, 2026 surrounded by family. Lawson was born September 29th, 1949 in Augusta, GA to Lawson Elgie "Red" Douglas and Anne Banks Douglas.

Lawson began working from a young age alongside his parents at Augusta Municipal Golf Course. He attended Carlisle Military Academy eventually graduating from Aquinas Highschool in Augusta. Lawson then went to Palmetto Dunes in Hilton Head with his young family to work as an assistant pro. He went on to Bonnie Brae Country Club in Greenville, SC to work as the head golf professional for a number of years. He then returned to Augusta to open Lawson's Golf Shop in Daniel Village. Lawson was a devoted member of the Augusta American Legion Post 205.

Lawson is survived by his daughter, Catherine (Rick) Douglas Hazlewood of Nassau, Bahamas; sister, Debbie (Bobby Lee) Douglas Hendrix of Augusta, GA; brother, Jim (Amanda) Douglas of Athens, GA; grandchildren, Olivia (Joseph) Lomady and Whit Hazlewood; nephews, James and Charles Douglas; niece, Stephanie (John) Albert and their three children, Fin, Owen, and Douglas; along with countless other family and friends.

The family would like to give thanks to the Barclay House, Hospice Services of Augusta, and FirstLight Home Care, with a special thank you to Tadessa Wyan.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, February 7th at 11:00am at Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the gravesite following the service. In honor of Lawson's wishes, those attending are encouraged to wear golfing attire or casual clothes.

Honorary pallbearers are Keith Morgan, Gray Moore, Bobby Lee, Joey Newsome, Jamey Cheek, and Thomas Leonard.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorial donations to be made to First Tee of Augusta or to St Mary on the Hill Catholic Church.
