Larry Wayne Sprowls

Larry W. Sprowls, 82, of Martinez, Georgia, formerly of Claysville, Pennsylvania, passed away on August 18th, 2026. Born August 5th, 1944, a son of the late Rev. Harold R. and Rev. Mary J. Sprowls of Claysville, Pennsylvania.

A graduate of McGuffey High School in 1962, a United States Army veteran with service in both Korea and Vietnam. A former owner and operator of a truck and trailer body shop with his brothers Chuck and John for many years. A truck driver for Con Way Southern Express trucking company in Georgia before return home to Pennsylvania where he served as a state constable and the mayor for the town of Claysville for 6 years (November 1st, 2004 to July 2nd, 2010.) Larry also worked security for the McGuffey School District.

An avid fan of both the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Pittsburgh Steelers, Mr. Sprowls always supported his teams. He was also a lifetime member of the Claysville American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Susan Chess Sprowls, son Larry Sprowls II (wife Cori), sister Sue Kite (husband Bill), niece Karie (partner Brian); 6 grandchildren, special cousin/brother Dale Sprowls (wife Jamey). Several nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Cathy and Lynda Sprowls.

Preceding him in death is a sister, Betty Ann Plants, brothers Chuck and John Sprowls, a step son John Dunn; a nephew, Jeff Kuhn; and sister in law Becky Kuhn.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 18th from 5:00pm to 7:00 pm at Platt's Funeral Home, 337 N. Belair Road, Evans, GA 30809.

Military Honors will be accorded by the Claysville American Legion post 639.
