We are sad to announce the passing of Larry Bruce Omstead, 80, who entered into rest Wednesday evening on December 17th, 2025.
Larry was born in Manhattan, New York on June 6th, 1945. He spent his childhood years with his sister Linda in Spring Valley, NY, Montreal, CAN, and New City, NY. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1964. He attended Tri-State College in Angola, IN, then Westchester College, NY where he pursued a degree in electrical and mechanical engineering.
After college he moved to Los Angeles where he met his wife of 44 years, Imelda in1976. He and Imelda married in 1981. They had 3 children, Albert (1982-2021), Jennifer (1984), and Ruth (1986).The family moved to Martinez, Ga in 1988, where Larry worked for Bechtel at Savannah River Site for 24 years.
Despite suffering a devastating stroke in 2011, which left Larry permanently paralyzed on the left half of his body, he continued to enjoy life. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and son. He loved working on cars (Austin Healy) and his motorcycles. He was always laughing and joking around. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Montague Omstead and Ruth Coleman Omstead, and his son Albert Garth Omstead.
Larry is survived by wife, Imelda Omstead, his daughters Jennifer Pampalon (Andrew) and Ruth Wachtel (Scott), daughter in law, Que Omstead, his sister Linda Curley (Fred Tompkins), his niece, Alison Curley, his nephew, Jason Curley (Anna Marie), and his 6 grandchildren-Francis Omstead, Mia and Ava Pampalon, and Florence, Eleanor, and Louis Wachtel.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 30th, 2025, at 12:00 PM at St. Teresa’s of Avila Catholic Church in Grovetown, Georgia. The family invites friends to gather for a reception following the service.
