Aiken

Larry Michael Dickenson, known affectionately as Mike, was born on January 28, 1950, in Knoxville, Tennessee, and quietly departed this world at his home on November 26, 2024. He leaves behind a legacy woven into the hearts of his family, cherished friends, and a community that was touched by his generous spirit.

In a distinguished career as an Instrumentation and Electrical Technician, Mike's expertise took him from Houston, Texas, to Augusta, Georgia, where he was celebrated for his remarkable skills and dedication. His hands-on approach and inventive mind earned him numerous accolades, paralleling his reputation as the quintessential "McGyver." Mike was not just a master in his field; he relished the opportunity to impart his knowledge to his children and grandchildren, igniting their imaginations with the same passion that guided his own.

Mike was more than a technician; he was a haven of warmth for those around him. Always ready with a helping hand or a captivating story, he embodied the very essence of kindness. His immense heart knew no bounds, and he would invariably shine brightly with praise for others, never uttering a negative word. He was the ultimate confidant, the one you turned to in times of need, whether for advice or a good laugh.

An avid enthusiast of the great outdoors, Mike often found joy riding his Heritage Softail Harley Davidson, embodying the spirit of freedom and adventure. He cherished moments spent hunting and fishing, crafting memories that would last a lifetime with family and friends, particularly with the Rogues Motorcycle Club. His passion extended beyond just the thrill of the chase; he was a keen collector of knives and guns, each piece telling its own story within his expansive collection.

Mike's life was beautifully interwoven with those he loved. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Betty Jo Dickenson. Their life and love was nothing short of true devotion. His heart swelled with pride when he spoke of his family, including his daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Jimmy Collier; sons and daughter-in-laws, CJ and Tina Dickenson; and Scotty and Jessica Dickenson. His grandchildren were the light of his life —Nicole (Chase) Manley, Jake Collier, Jessica Collier, Zack Collier, Harley Dickenson, Gabe Dickenson—and his step-grandchildren- Zane (Anna) Laidig, Noah Laidig, Jace Grygo and Taylor Scholz. Mike treasured his great-granddaughter, Emma Manley— and step-great-grandchildren, Ivy Laidig and Grace Scholz. Alongside his cherished immediate family, Mike had a remarkable bond with many special nieces and nephews, including a notable affection for Amy and Casey Cooter who were an integral part of his life.

Though he was surrounded by close family, the loss of his son, Michael Dickenson, weighed heavily on his heart, along with the memories of his departed parents, Sherrill and Dolly Dickenson, and beloved brothers, Bobby and Tony Dickenson. Each of them shaped the man he became, and they hold a place in his treasured recollections.

As we come together to celebrate Mike's remarkable life, memories of his laughter, indomitable spirit, and timeless teachings will resonate through the ages. Visitation will be held on November 30, 2024, at Platt's Funeral Home in Evans, Georgia, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, followed by a heartfelt funeral service from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
