Larry D. Miller

June 19, 1946 — September 13, 2023

Larry D. Miller, a man of unwavering dedication and boundless entrepreneurial spirit, passed away on September 13, 2023, in Martinez, Georgia, at the age of 77.

Born on June 16, 1946, in San Diego, California, Larry's journey through life was marked by service to his country, a passion for education, and a commitment to the well-being of others.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 18, 2023 at Platt’s Belair Road Chapel with Mr. Burt Sappenfield officiating. Interment will be private.

Larry's formative years were spent in East Tennessee, where he laid the foundation for his future endeavors. He pursued his education at East Tennessee State University and Augusta College, where he honed his intellectual aptitude and sharpened his leadership skills.

In service to his nation, Larry joined the United States Army on April 11, 1966. He demonstrated exceptional dedication and discipline throughout his military career, graduating from Fort Benning Officer Candidate School as a Second Lieutenant on March 13, 1967. It was during this time that he was stationed at Fort Gordon, Georgia, and assumed critical roles, serving as the Executive Officer of the 140S Military Police Company and as Company Commander of Company G, 5th Battalion, Signal Training Brigade. Larry's commitment to the armed forces extended beyond his active-duty years, as he continued to serve in the United States Army Reserve, ultimately achieving the rank of Captain.

Transitioning into the civilian world, Larry's entrepreneurial spirit led him to become the President of McCall Business College in the 1970s. This local vocational school specialized in medical assistant training and computer programming, reflecting his commitment to providing valuable skills and education to others.

Larry's ventures were not limited to education. He became the proud owner of Scoopy's Ice Cream Parlor, a beloved establishment located in Columbia Square, Martinez. His dedication and tireless work ethic then led him to a successful career as a REALTOR® in 1979. In 1985, he founded Larry Miller Realty, which later affiliated with Century 21 in 1986. His real estate journey reached new heights when CENTURY 21 Larry Miller Realty was awarded the first-ever contract with the Department of the Army to open a real estate office on Fort Gordon in 1996. This office played a pivotal role in assisting military and civilian employees with their housing needs during PCS moves, with a portion of the commission contributing to Fort Gordon's Morale Welfare and Recreation fund. Over the course of 14 years, CENTURY 21 Larry Miller Realty generously donated over $500,000 to support military families. This contract also bestowed upon the company the honor of opening a branch office at Fort Clayton in Panama in 1999, further extending their support to military families during a significant transitional period.

In January 2023, Larry bid farewell to his role as Broker and Owner of CENTURY 21 Larry Miller Realty, allowing him to embark on one of his greatest passions: traveling alongside his beloved bride.

Throughout his life, Larry cherished the opportunity to share his knowledge and expertise. He had the privilege of teaching hundreds of REALTORS® the art of professionally assisting buyers and sellers, leaving a lasting legacy in the real estate industry.

Larry is preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Crowe Miller; his father, Clifford O. Miller; and his sister, Mary Lou Miller. He is survived by his beautiful wife of 54 years, Donna Miller; his daughter, Kelli Miller Pierson (Worley-Trip); and his son, Gerald Wayne Morgan II (Billy). His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Drew Pierson (Wesley) and Jamie Pierson, as well as his great-grandson, Lennon Pierson. Larry's cherished companion, his beloved dog Zoe, also mourns his loss.

Larry's life was one of service, education, and generosity. His contributions to his country, his community, and his family will be remembered and celebrated by all who were fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and an indomitable spirit that will continue to inspire future generations.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Pierson, Drew Pierson, Wesley Pierson, Trip Pierson, John Allen and Noah McBride.
