Listen to Obituary

Lanier Herman Adams entered into rest August 26, 2025 at his residence in Grovetown, Georgia surrounded by his family. He was born in Porterdale, GA, on April 4, 1949, to the late Herman Pearl Adams and Catherine Dial Adams. He was predeceased by his sister Kaye Phillips. He attended Newton County schools, and went on to receive his Bachelor’s of Science from the UGA School of Pharmacy in 1972. In 1982 he graduated from the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kansas City, MO. Lanier then entered the family medicine residency at Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Ft. Gordon, GA, graduating in 1985, followed by two years of active duty service at Winn Army Community Hospital, Ft. Stewart, GA.

Lanier practiced medicine in Greensboro and Athens, GA and later taught in the Family Medicine Residency Program at Medical College of Georgia and subsequently returned to Eisenhower Army Medical Center where he retired in 2014. Lanier was a board certified member of the American Board of Family Medicine and a member of American Academy of Family Physicians. He will be remembered by his patients and coworkers for his compassion and his sense of humor, which often included blowing bubbles or a song and dance as diversions for fussy patients. His role model for his practice of medicine was his childhood physician, Dr. Goodwin Tuck.

In 1972 Lanier married his high school sweetheart Emily Morgan and together they raised three children. Lanier came to saving faith as a boy. Lanier is survived by his wife of 53 years, Emily, daughter Dessa Edwards (John), son Will Adams and daughter Meg Adams. Grandchildren include Noah, Lukas, Hayes, and Iris Edwards, who knew him as "Grumpy." Lanier truly loved the outdoors, fishing, gardening, his family, and his dog Tilly.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home for their patient and compassionate care of Lanier over the last 14 months.
