Mrs. Kathryn Thompson Ringel, beloved wife of Eugene “Butch” J. Ringel, II, entered into rest after a short illness on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Piedmont Augusta Hospital.

The family invites friends to a visitation on Monday, September 22, 2025, from 5 - 7 PM at the Belair Road Chapel of Platt’s Funeral Home.

Kathy was one of six children born to LTC. Robert H. Thompson and Lola Pickett Thompson in Birmingham, Alabama. Their travels as a military family eventually brought them to Fort Gordon, where they made North Augusta home. Kathy earned her associate’s degree at Augusta College and went on to work as a peer support specialist at Friendship Community Center and later Georgia Mental Health Consumer Network. She was a facilitator for the Depression Bipolar Support Alliance, as well as the secretary and long-time committee member of the Bert Yancey Memorial Golf Tournament.

Kathy was a former Girl Scout leader, PTO President, Sunday School teacher, and shuttle service for her children. Along the way, she made lifelong friendships and shared many laughs and memories.

She was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Blair Ringel, her parents, LTC Robert and Lola Thompson, and her siblings and their spouses, Rev. Robert H. Thompson, II (Nadine), Patricia Thompson Finch (Don), Elizabeth Thompson, and John P. Thompson.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Kathryn “Katie” Ringel Gomez (Jose), Dianna Ringel Dunaway (Eric), Eugene “Joseph” Ringel, III (Sandy), and Lauren Andrea Ringel, a sister, Cecelia “C.C.” Thompson Flanders (Joe), her grandchildren, Aleia, Alexis, Emma, Julianna, Molly Grace, Alana, Owen, Blair, and Logan, and a great grandchild, Malaya.

She was blessed to have a large but dear extended family including her nieces and nephews: Robert (Debbie) Thompson and Stephanie (Nathan) Childs, Bryan Finch, Jenna Finch Gillis (Bret), Elizabeth “Biba” Peters, Amy (David) Glass, Anna (Brad) Glenn, Capers (Susan) Thompson, Wil Thompson, Joe (Heather) Flanders, and Marianne (Justin) McBride, along with numerous great-nieces and nephews.

If so desired, memorials may be made to the Georgia Mental Health Consumer Network at www.gmhcn.org
