June Woodward Powell

Martinez, GA – June Elizabeth Woodward Powell, 87, entered into eternal rest Saturday, July 7, 2012. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She is with her Lord and redeemer Jesus Christ.

A celebration of her life and funeral services will be held at the graveside at Westover Memorial Park at 10:00AM Wednesday, July 11, 2012 with Rev. Dr. Cynthia Taylor and Rev. Gary R. Powell officiating. The family will receive friends at Platt’s Funeral Home, 337 N. Belair Rd., Evans, GA, from 5:00PM until 7:00PM on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. Family members and close friends are invited to attend a celebration of the Holy Eucharist in the Platt’s chapel at 4:15PM prior to receiving friends.

Her husband Raymond Charles Powell predeceased Mrs. Powell. She was born in Augusta, November 20, 1924 and was the daughter of the late Arthur Carl and Ola Ripley Woodward. Her siblings Dr. Geraldine W. Hargrove, Christine W. Hall, Madelyn W. McCord, and Theron R. Woodward predeceased Mrs. Powell. Her first husband Perera A. Brodie, Jr. also predeceased her. She was a former member of the old Woodlawn Baptist Church, Augusta, and a member of First Baptist Church, Augusta. She attended the Church of the Holy Comforter, Martinez, with family. June attended Tubman High School, Toccoa Falls Christian School, Toccoa Falls, GA, and completed the business program at the Academy of Richmond County. She was a devoted pediatric nurse for Jack E. Bell, M.D. for 25 years. June was a former member of the Augusta Women’s Club, the Bridge 101 Club, and a director and teacher for the Intermediate Department at Woodlawn Baptist Church.

Mrs. Powell is survived by her son, Perera A. (Pete) Brodie, III (Sara) and her daughter, Cheryl Brodie Duttwieler (Robert) of Fernandina Beach, FL, and her granddaughters, Meredith Brodie Beach (Scott) and Lauren Brodie Wright (Travis) and her great grandchildren, Jay and Anne Brodie Beach and Trav and Ben Wright.

Mrs. Powell is further survived by her stepchildren, Danny W. Powell; Gary R. Powell (Kay); Kathi Powell Anderson (Bruce); Debbie Powell Braswell (Joe); Diane Powell Campbell; Timothy C. Powell (Neisha); Nora Jean Powell Korrek (Ken); Anthony C. Powell (Barbara) and Michael Shawn Powell (Kim). Her step grandchildren, Jason Powell, Amy Powell, Autumn Powell, Dawn Powell, Kathy Powell, Jennifer Skinner, Joey Braswell, Rene Silas, Ryan Anderson, Mark Nicholson, Melissa McIntyre, Angel Wood, Jamey Blackledge, Raymond Powell, Kori Powell, Kristen Powell, and Kourt Powell. She was predeceased by her stepgrandson, Zeb Blackledge. She is survived by 18 step great grandchildren.

The family wishes to express its gratitude to the staff at Kentwood Nursing Facility’s Assisted Living and to the staff at University Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit.
