Heyward was born in Franklin County, Georgia. He moved to Augusta in 1948 and began working at Lily Tulip where he met and later married the love of his life. During the time he worked at Lily, he joined the Air Force and served four years during the Korean War. After honorably serving his country, he returned to work at Lily Tulip and retired after 38 years as the Print Shop Manager.
Heyward’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He loved the Lord and his church in which he served in many capacities during his lifetime. He loved the game of golf, working in his yard, gardening, reading, and walking in the mall. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He was dearly loved by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Heyward was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann, of 59 years; his parents, Fred and Wilna Beggs; brothers Will Beggs and Bobby Beggs; sisters, Jeanette Hebbard and Rosena Garrison; and beloved granddaughter, Lyndsie Brooker. He is survived by his children, Mike Beggs, Angie Gainey, Julie Davis (Charles), Larry Beggs (Melanie), and Danny Beggs (Patty); 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, and sister, Anne Bagwell.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Steven Davis, Joshua Gainey, Chandler Beggs, Madison Beggs, Garrison Beggs, and Matthew Beggs.
