John William Butts, Jr., beloved husband of Maggie Butts, entered into rest on Saturday, October 28, 2023.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 4, 2023 in the chapel of Platts Funeral Home Belair Road. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A burial with military honors will follow on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
John was born in the small town of Brunswick, Georgia, and was the oldest of three boys. He honorably served his country for 20 years in the Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant at the end of a distinguished career.
While in the service, John met his beloved wife, Maggie. Together, the both of them raised two loving sons, Michael and Jason, throughout a loving 38 year marriage. His humor and wonderful personality never failed to brighten the room, and he would always help anyone without hesitation.
John was a lover of nature, guitars, and, perhaps most importantly, cats. His sense of humor, selfless nature, and devotion to both his family and God will always be remembered and will always be carried on by his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Maggie, he is survived by his two sons, Michael Aaron Butts and Jason Walter Butts, and brother Joseph Butts (Kelly). He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Shelby Butts and brother, Jeffrey Butts.
If so desired, memorials may be made to Air Force Aid Society (afas.org).
