John Dickey Boardman, Jr.

January 3, 1948 — June 30, 2021

John Dickey Boardman Jr. (Ol Hoss) entered into rest on June 30th. A lifelong resident of Augusta, Dickey had an unrivaled passion for life and an unwavering, steadfast love for family and friends alike. He never met a stranger and his smile lit up the lives of all those who were blessed to know him. The true definition of a southern gentleman, Dickey was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather and is one of the most beloved citizens Augusta has ever known. He relished his role as patriarch of the Boardman family coming from a long lineage of strong and courageous men who came before him. With an outstanding career in real estate, Dickey served as Senior Vice President for Meybohm Realtors. He was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County and the University of Georgia where he was a proud member of the Chi Phi fraternity. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Air National Guard.
Dickey was preceded in death by his father John Dickey Boardman Sr., his mother Gene Allen Boardman Claussen and first wife Sharon Simpson Boardman.
He is survived by his loving wife Julie Ann Baggs Boardman; daughters Norris Boardman Nelson (Phillip), Mary Dickey Boardman Mayer (Will), Gabby Boardman Benton (Chad); Marianna Dixon Williams and Michael Clark Williams Jr.; eleven beloved grandchildren; sisters Montie Boardman Knapp (Frank), Glenne Boardman Simpson (Van Buren), Elizabeth Boardman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A lifelong world traveler with a zest for adventure, Dickey and Julie Ann had an enduring love affair with Paris where their frequent visits were welcomed by those they had come to know and love in the City of Light. Dickey was a member of the Augusta Country Club, the Augusta Golf Association, the Carolina Yacht Club, the Aiken Tennis Club, the Augusta Assembly, Schwartz Mortacoumb, the Church of the Good Shepherd and was a founding member of the Pinetucky Gun Club. He served on the boards of the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia, the Augusta and Georgia Board of Realtors, the Augusta Training Shop and was a Trustee of the Augusta Free School. Dickey successfully served as Regional Campaign Manager for President George H.W. Bush. A true American patriot, Dickey simply embodied what it means to be an Ol’ Hoss.
