Augusta, GA---John P. Crawford, Jr., 78, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2021 surrounded by his wife and children, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, October 1, 2021 in the Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Road Chapel with Pastor Michael Freed officiating. Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown, GA. The family will greet friends in the foyer of the Chapel prior to the service.
John was born February 9, 1943, in Augusta, GA, to John P. Crawford, Sr. and Maude Boyd Crawford. He grew up as an Army brat, living in Germany, Austria and various US Army bases. John served in the Army reserves for six years before meeting his wife of 48 years, Elaine Baldowski Crawford. John and Elaine resided in Branchville, SC for many years, before moving back to Augusta. He was baptized at Branchville United Methodist Church and is currently a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Augusta.
John was a master carpenter, building supply salesman and managed 3 different home improvement companies. He was an avid gardener, woodworker and fisherman. He loved to read and was known for his sharp wit. He was devoted to his family above all else.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine B. Crawford and three children, John P. Crawford III (Pattie) of Abbeville, GA, Christopher B. Crawford (Leslie) of Aiken, SC and Shelby Sheldon (Patrick) of Lexington, SC. He is also survived by five grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters, as well as one brother, William Robert Crawford (Tawn) of Olympia, WA and two sisters, Frances Lopaz of Philadelphia, PA and Priscilla Titus (Jon) of Fredonia, NY. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, James Patrick Crawford.
