Jeania Carr Howard, 81, of Douglas, Arizona, passed away on August 10, 2025, in Evans, Georgia.

Jeania was born in Douglas, AR to H.F. Carr and E. Mae Carr on March 2, 1944. She married Lee C. Howard, Jr., on March 2, 1990, in Augusta, GA.

She graduated from White Haven High School in Whitehaven, TN in 1962. She graduated from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 1966. She received her Master’s Degrees in the following areas: Specific Learning Disabilities (1974) and in Instructional Supervision (1976) from Georgia Southern University, Emotional & Behavioral Disabilities (1985) from Augusta State University, and Interrelated Special Education from Georgia Accreditation.

Jeania taught elementary grades in the Memphis City School System and the Richmond County School System. She taught classes for students with specific learning disabilities, emotional, behavioral disabilities and interrelated special education at Bayvale Elementary School, Bungalow Road Elementary School, Tutt Middle School and Westside High School. Jeania also served as a special education consultant for the Richmond County School System.

Jeania served as the President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Delta Gamma International Honorary Fraternity for Women Leaders in Education. She received the award for Resource Educator of the Year (1980) for the Richmond County School System. She also received the Georgia award for Outstanding Learning Disabilities Teacher of the Year (1987). Jeania was recommended for the Sam Kirk Award by the Georgia Learning Disabilities Association (1988). She volunteered for the following: Columbia County Board of Elections for the Savannah Rapids Voting Precinct, American Cancer Society, Children’s Cancer Society, March of Dimes, American Heart Association, Columbia County Humane Society, Humane Society of the United States, American Autism Association, and The Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.

Jeania is preceded in death by her parents, H.F and E Mae Carr, her grandparents Marcus “Pete” and Cora Ann Talbot from Trumann, AR.

Jeania is survived by her husband Lee C. Howard, Jr., her stepchildren Deborah Sailors and her husband, Chris Sailors, Lisa Morgan and her husband, Christopher Morgan, and her grandchildren Joshua Sailors and Lydia Sailors.

A private family service will be held Friday, August 15, 2025, at Westover Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Platts Funeral Home.
