Janis Shucard

Janis Carol Shucard, 79, of Big Bear Lake, California, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. 

Janis was born in Los Angeles, California, to Bettye Irene Guthrie on October 26, 1946. She grew up in Lynwood, California. She went to work for the Berns Company in Long Beach, California, around 1970, where she met Bill Shucard. She and Bill were married on June 24, 1972, in Long Beach. She had some interesting jobs, including being a telephone operator for a phone company. Mainly, she worked for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office for twenty years, nine years as a 9-1-1 dispatcher and eleven as a jailer at the county jail in Big Bear, California. She loved working night and graveyard shifts because that's where they had “most of the action.” Janis was devoted to her job.

She was also devoted to her family. She was predeceased by her mother, Bettye, her mother-in-law Lillian, and her father-in-law Max. She is survived by her husband Bill, her sons Adam and Spencer, her daughter-in-law Gennie, her granddaughter, Cypress, her brother Brian, and her brother-in-law Jay.
