Janine Marie Harris passed away at Doctor’s Hospital unexpectedly after succumbing to respiratory failure. She entered her rest on Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at the age of 42. She was born in Augusta, Georgia at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center to Janis Tyrell-Smith and the late Johnny Tyrell-Smith.
Janine was the second of three children and deeply rooted in family and faith. Her faith was evident not just in words but in her actions. Janine accepted Jesus Christ at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hawaii.
Growing up, Janine was soft spoken & independent. She enjoyed participating in activities like the Girl Scouts of America. She would achieve the Girl Scouts highest honor, the Gold Award, demonstrating their values of selflessness, discipline and strength. Janine would also receive letters of recognition from various members of local and state government for her achievements. By the time she graduated in 2001 from Lakes High School in Lakewood, Washington, she was an accomplished flautist as well.
After graduating high school, Janine attended Pierce College in Lakewood and continued her education at Paine College in Augusta, Georgia. In 2002, Janine began her career at Walmart as a Pharmacy Technician. She was a beloved member of the Walmart Pharmacy team for 24 years. She poured herself into her work by serving her community.
Janine had a spirit of adventure and a love for traveling, which led to her starting her own travel agency, Harris Majestic Voyages, LLC. She traveled with her husband, son, family and friends to many locations including: the Mediterranean, the Bahamas, Mexico and Alaska.
Left to cherish Janine’s beautiful life and loving memory are her devoted husband, Lamont Harris, her beloved son, Jordan Harris; brother, Jonathan Tyrell-Smith (Jennifer), sister, Jennifer Williams (Terrence); cherished grandmother, Geneva Smith; aunt, Valerie Okoro (Edward), uncle, James Tyrell (Audrey); nephew, Jonathan Tyrell-Smith Jr., niece, Alexandria Tyrell-Smith; along with a host of cousins, dear friends, and all those whose lives were touched by her kindness, compassion, and unwavering love.
Visitation will be held from 5-7pm, Friday, January 23, 2026 at Platts Funeral home located at 337 N Belair Rd, Evans, GA 30809.
Funeral Services will be held at 11am (EST), Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Platts Funeral home located at 337 N Belair Rd, Evans, GA 30809. Services will be led by Reverend Dorothy Anderson.
Burial Services will be held at 2pm (CST), Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at Mount Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery, 2131 Highway 550, Union Church, MS 39668. Services will be led by Reverend Troy Lee Smith.
In honor of Janine, we ask those attending the funeral to wear an accent of pink.
