It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Alan Weeks, known affectionately to many as Jim, on September 11, 2024, in Troy, South Carolina. Born on March 8, 1986, in Augusta, Georgia, Jim lived a life filled with love, laughter, and a profound commitment to serving others.
Jim embarked on his journey into adulthood with a strong work ethic, beginning his first job working at Augusta Commons as a server in an assisted care facility during his high school years. This experience shaped his caring and loving personality, setting the stage for a life dedicated to helping others. A proud graduate of Evans High School in 2004, he further pursued education in welding, showcasing his talent and desire to learn and build.
His thirst for adventure led him to join the United States Marine Corps, where he served honorably from May 18, 2008, until December 15, 2012. As a helicopter mechanic and plane captain, Jim took on crucial responsibilities, ensuring the safety of countless flights. His service earned him numerous medals, including the Good Conduct Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, and Expert Rifle Qualification Badge, amongst others—all testaments to his dedication and commitment.
Beyond his military service, Jim found joy in nurturing his personal interests. He was the founder of Straw Hat Parrots, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the well-being of parrots. His love for these beautiful creatures was evident, as he cared for a personal flock of over 30 parrots, bringing laughter and companionship to the bird community. He sought to educate others on healthy bird diets and encourage free flight and recall training.
Jim’s smile was infectious, and his loving spirit brought warmth to all who knew him. He is survived by his devoted wife, Alicia (Partain) Weeks, and his stepchildren, Noah and Emma Partain. His legacy continues through his father, Phillip Weeks Jr., and his mother, Alison Smith, along with her husband, Gary. Jim was also a loving brother to Elizabeth Vickrey and her husband Brandon and a proud uncle to his nephew Michael and niece Emily. He will be deeply missed by his grandmother, Carolyn Weeks, and a large extended family of uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Jim joins in eternal rest with his beloved grandparents, Phillip Weeks Sr., Charles and Alice Lowe, and his Uncle Charles (Chuck) Lowe Jr., who have gone before him. Their memory serves as a beacon of love and remembrance for all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
As we grieve the loss of Jim, let us also celebrate the profound impact he made in his short time with us. His love, kindness, and humor will resonate within our hearts forever. We hold tightly onto the joyful memories he has left behind, finding solace in knowing that Jim will always remain a cherished part of our lives.
