James "Jimmy" Edward O'Brien

James “Jimmy” Edward O’Brien, loving husband of Elizabeth Ann O’Brien for 63 years, entered eternal rest on Friday, July 17, 2026, surrounded by cherished loved ones.

Jimmy was born on September 1, 1936, in the Bronx, New York, to John and Margaret O’Brien. He was one of four children and spent most of his life in New York.

Following his graduation from high school, Jimmy proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he honorably served for four years. After completing his military service, he began a distinguished career with the New York City Fire Department, serving as a firefighter for more than 30 years and earning the rank of Lieutenant.

He had a lifelong, unwavering passion for baseball and was a devoted New York Yankees fan. He spent many years coaching baseball in both New York and the North Augusta area, where he positively impacted countless lives. Whether he was playing, coaching, or cheering from the stands, baseball was one of his greatest joys. He also enjoyed playing racquetball and handball.

Jimmy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He shared 63 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Elizabeth Ann, and together they raised five daughters. Twenty-two years ago, Jimmy and Elizabeth made North Augusta their home, where they created many cherished memories. They enjoyed traveling, taking cruises together, and spending time at Myrtle Beach.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents John and Margaret O’Brien; his older brother Jackie; and his sister Joan.

He is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth Ann O’Brien; his five daughters Barbara, Mary Beth (Pete), Dawn, Jamie (Eddy), and Kristin (Brandon); his brother Richard; his five grandchildren Steven, Jack, Kate, Evan, and Alex (Devin); and his great granddaughter Lyla James.

The family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Ms. Beverly who has been the best caretaker they could have asked for. Her compassionate care, support, and genuine friendship meant more than words can express. She has been a tremendous blessing to the O'Brien family.
