Mr. James Michael Hooks, beloved husband of Kimberly, entered into rest on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at Wellstar Augusta Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at the Belair Road Chapel of Platts Funeral Home, with Dr. Robert Lehn and Rev. David Beck officiating. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service. He will be laid to rest at the Georgia Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery at 1:00 PM on January 9, 2026.
James was one of six children born to Lebbous and Bertha Hooks, in Porter Township, Pennsylvania. He was drafted into the US Army and was sent to Vietnam from 1967 to 1969. He served bravely and honorably and was awarded The Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and the Bronze Star for valor in combat. He was also the recipient of the Purple Heart. After he left the military, he went to work as a crane operator, a career he excelled in for 49 years. He was a member of the VFW, the International Engineer Operating Union, and Westside Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, Kim, he is survived by his children, Kyle Hooks (Angela) and Laura Langford (Walt), his grandchildren, Alexandria Hooks, Weston Hooks, Emma Langford and Everly Langford and his siblings, Lebbous Gary Hooks (Donna), Martha King and Luppa Henry (Gary Sr.). He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lebbous and Martha Hooks and his sisters, Pauletta Mertens and Greta Freeman.
