James "Bill" W. Amerson

James “Bill” W Amerson, 90, of Augusta, Ga, passed away on April 6, 2022 in Evans, Ga.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel with Pastor Mark Sterling officiating. Interment will be private.

Bill was born in Augusta, Ga to Thomas A. Amerson Sr. & Jessie Mae Boswell Amerson on January 23, 1932. He was a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County. He married Joann A. Amerson on August 31, 1952 in Augusta, Ga. He graduated from Augusta State with a Bachelor’s Degree.

He worked as an Office Manager for Department of Labor for 24 years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served in the Navy.

He was an official for high school, college & semi pro football for 50 years. He was on the Board at Augusta Tech for 25 years and Chairman of the Youth Committee in Richmond/Burke County with the Job Training Partnership Act and treasurer of the CSRA Human Resources Association & the Augusta Football Association & Augusta Civitan Club. Bill gave his heart to the Lord at the age of 7 and his family moved to Curtis Baptist in 1972 where he was actively involved on the Finance Committee, Building Committee, and the School Board.


Bill is preceded in death by parents, Thomas A. Amerson Sr and Jesse Mae Amerson; Sister, Stella Runyan & Son, David Michael Amerson

Bill is survived by his wife, Joann A. Amerson; Brother, Allen Amerson and many nieces & nephews.

Pallbearers will be Members of the GHSA Officials.

The Amerson family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Westwood Extended Care and Regency Hospice.

The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, April 14, 2022 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
