Jacky Lamar Godwin, CSM(Ret.)

Jacky Lamar Godwin CSM(Ret.), our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away at home peacefully surrounded by his family on July 9, 2024, at the age of 93.

 Jacky was born in Homerville, Georgia on March 11, 1931. He is predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Mildred Lucille and his son, Michael Lamar Godwin. Jacky is survived by his two daughters, Gerelda (Martin) and Ruth (Ken); his two grandchildren, Vanessa (Donald) and Curtis; three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Emily and Tyler; and many nieces and nephews.

 Jacky served his country, reaching the rank of Command Sergeant Major before retiring after 28 years. He served a tour in Korea, two tours in Vietnam, and two tours in Germany. Jacky’s passion after retiring was his family, his garden, and his church. He will be greatly missed.

 Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday evening, July 12, 2024 at Platt’s Funeral Home 721 Crawford Avenue.

 A celebration of life will be held at Hephzibah Baptist Church, 2527 Georgia Highway 88, Hephzibah, Georgia, 30815 on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 11:00 AM. Mr. Godwin will lie in state at the church beginning at 10:30 AM until service time.
