Herschel L. Coxwell

February 23, 1950 — August 10, 2014

Martinez, GA - Herschel L. Coxwell, 64, of Martinez, GA, passed away Sunday August 10, 2014 at Doctor’s Hospital surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 14, 2014, 11:00 AM at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Road Chapel. Interment will follow at Johnson United Methodist Church Cemetery, Warrenton, GA

Herschel was born in Louisville, Ga on February 23, 1950 to William Wayne and Lois Coxwell. He was a Vietnam Veteran, having served in the United States Army.

Herschel was an avid nurseryman and farmer who loved to create beauty and watch things grow. He established Coxwell Landscaping and Tree Farm over 35 years ago and instilled the love of landscaping in his son Asa, who now carries on the family business. Herschel also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and served many years on the board of directors of the American Treeing Feist Association.

Herschel is survived by his wife of 32 years, Barbara, son Asa (Blane Purdy), mother, Lois Coxwell, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Christopher and Kathy Pickering, nieces Kaitlin, Margot, and Samantha Pickering. He was preceded in death by his father William Wayne Coxwell.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Lunceford, Dan Coxwell, Dennis Coxwell, Danny VanDyke, Henry Ivey, and Jake Stone.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2014 from 5:00PM until 8:00PM at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Rd.
