Mr. Herbert Eugene Myers, beloved husband of 53 years of Cheryl Goodwin Myers, entered into rest on Monday, March 31, 2025.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, April 4, 2025, at Platts Belair Road Chapel with the Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, April 3, from 5:00 until 7:00.
Herbert was born in Augusta in 1948 to Presley and Jane Myers. He attended Richmond Academy, where he met his future wife, Cheryl Goodwin. He graduated in 1966, and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in economics from Presbyterian College. He was active in college life as a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity and the Scabbard and Blade military society. In 1970, he returned to college and earned his MBA in economics for the University of Georgia.
In 1971, he married his sweetheart, Cheryl and within a few years, they were blessed with two sons, Drew and Jonathan. His career led him to Babcock and Wilcox in 1975, where he started in Purchasing. Babcock and Wilcox became Thermal Ceramics, and he went on to become Product Manager, and then ultimately Export Manager until his retirement in 2008. He and Cheryl are long time members of Trinity on the Hill Methodist Church.
In college, he was active in ROTC, and upon completion of the program, he was commissioned into the Army National Guard as a second lieutenant. During his time in the military, he served in various assignments in transportation, combat engineering, infantry and the state area command. He retired honorably in 1995 with 20 years of faithful service.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl; his son, Jonathan Myers (Mary); his grandchildren, Emma Myers and Ethan Myers; his daughter-in-law, Kristie Covington; and his grandson, Benjamin Myers. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Garner, and a host of other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Drew Myers.
